Man o man… Let the summer begin!

Man o man… Let the summer begin!

Ride hard…. 83km/h.

AGAIN a fixedgear-related post…? Well, hahahaha, I just had to share this quote of Mat Hoffman (via Nalden):
“If you want to see what it’s like to play a live game of ‘frogger’, on a bike, with only one life, check out Line Of Sight.”

This isn’t another documentary about messengers or fixed gear riders. This is more about the question why people in Brussels don’t take the bicycle to their work or in general.
Last year I’ve spent a few weeks in Brussels and I totally agree with the makers of this documentary. It’s truly unbelievable how many cars are (standing still) in traffic. Although it’s quit a large city, it can be such a great one for some nice cycling…
But unfortunately at this moment: Brussels, the most congested city in Europe with only 4% cycling traffic.

Today: the second alleycat of The Tournament 2.0, organized by the Faster Than You Crew, – Looking forward to it!
Not a clue what to expect… (WTF is a ‘Biathlon’??)
Above is the video of the first one. I ended up 10th, so I definitely need even more speed (and air) today…

BADDDDDD NEWS!
RIH is the last genuine Amsterdam race bike builders/welders of Amsterdam (since 1921) and they’re closing down their iconic store this summer. There will be a farewell-ride (May 20th) in Amsterdam as a tribute to RIH, Wim van der Kaaij and his co-workers.
RIH was formed in 1921 by the Bustraan brothers in Amsterdam Holland.
The name RIH is for the name of an Arabian stallion ridden by one of the characters in a Karl May novel which was very popular at the time (and still are in Europe). RIH’s first championship was in 1924 when Jan Hijzelendoorn (a butcher) rode a Bustraan brothers frame to the sprint and 1 kilometer titles in the Dutch National Champions. In 1928 the firm moved to its present address in Amsterdam Also in 1928 Willem Bustraan Jr joined the business with his father and Uncle.
In 1948 Wim van der Kaaij joined the RIH business as an apprentice, he is the current owner of RIH. It is estimated that RIH frames have been ridden to over 350 national championships in both road and track events and 63 World-and Olympic titles.
Check out this film by: Meik de Swaan & David Dijkhoff (owner of one of the sickest RIH’s ever!)
